IPL: Capitals show Never-say-Die spirit, beat MI

Published

on

It was one of the most awaited matches of the IPL 2022.

Delhi Capitals faced the most successful franchise, Mumbai Indians led by India skipper Rohit Sharma.

After going through a below-par season last year, Mumbai Indians were highly determined to turn the table around.

Meanwhile, the Capitals were fighting to lift their first IPL trophy under the captaincy of India’s rising talent, Rishabh Pant.

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bowl first.
They took the field with just two overseas players – Rovman Powell and Tim Seifert.

Ishan displays his fireworks

Ishan Kishan was at his best as he smashed the Delhi Capitals bowlers all around the ground as he scored an unbeaten 81 from 48 balls.
Ishan’s knock was studded with 11 boundaries and a six as he batted with a strike rate of 168.75.
Since 2020, it was his fifth IPL fifty as an opener.
He went berserk late in the innings; especially in the last over, where he collected 16 runs off Shardul Thakur.
As a result, Mumbai Indians amassed 177 runs.

Kuldeep back in form

The whole of India has been waiting for Kuldeep Yadav to regain his magic and today, he did exactly that.

Coming into the attack after the powerplay, he broke the dangerous opening partnership by dismissing Rohit Sharma at deep mid-wicket on 41.

In his very next over, the Chinaman bowler got rid of Anmolpreet Singh, caught at long-off.

Kuldeep looked in great rhythm and exhibited tremendous confidence as he effectively dried up the runs.

In the 16th over, the 27-year-old struck again, dismissing Kieron Pollard who pulled a short ball straight into the lap of the mid-wicket fielder.

Kuldeep was the pick of the bowlers for his side as he took 3 wickets for 18 runs in his four overs.

Delhi kept losing wickets

Delhi Capitals came out with positive intent as Tim Seifert took the Mumbai Indians bowling apart.

However, he was sent back by spinner Murugan Ashwin’s vicious in-cutter that disturbed the stumps.

Ashwin took two wickets in one over to put the brakes on Delhi Capitals.

They kept on losing wickets at regular intervals during their chase; although Prithvi Shaw stood for some time in the middle, he too took the road to the hut.
Mumbai Indians pacer Basil Thampi took two wickets as he dismissed Prithvi Shaw and Rovman Powell in the same over.
Rishabh Pant also could not make an impact as he got out for just one run.
In fact, Delhi were five wickets down with less than a hundred runs on the board.
Just when Mumbai sensed an easy win, Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel stitched a match-winning partnership of 75* for the seventh wicket to take Delhi over the line.

Lalit Yadav scored 48 from 38 balls and Axar Patel scored 38 from 17 balls making sure that their team started on a winning note

Brief Scores: DC 179/6 (L Yadav 48*, A Patel 38*, B Thampi 3-35, M Ashwin 2-14) beat MI 177/5 (I Kishan 81*, R Sharma 41, K Yadav 3-18) by four wickets

Chasing a modest target of 119 runs, Janakpur overcame early setbacks and achieved victory in 19 overs, finishing with eight wickets down.

New Zealand batter Jimmy Neesham played a pivotal role, scoring a rapid 45 runs off just 17 balls. His innings included two fours and five sixes before being dismissed by Bipin Sharma. Contributions from Mayan Yadav (14 runs) and Sher Malla (16 runs not out) also proved crucial in the lower order.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, has confirmed that Kohli, wife Anushka Sharma, and their children, Vamika and Akaay, plan to relocate to London. Sharma revealed that the cricketer envisions settling in the UK post-retirement. Virat Kohli frequently visits London, where their son Akaay was born earlier this year on February 15.

The couple owns property in London, where they are expected to reside after the move. “Yes, Virat plans to move to London with his family soon. However, he is currently focused on cricket and spending time with his family,” Sharma stated.

Kohli has balanced cricket commitments and family time this year. After the birth of his son, he returned to India following the T20 World Cup in June and played series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Currently participating in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, his next major assignment is the Champions Trophy, followed by IPL 2025.

Despite a dip in form during recent matches against Australia, Sharma expressed confidence in Kohli’s ability to deliver. “Virat scored a brilliant century in Perth and will bounce back in the Boxing Day and Sydney Tests,” Sharma said.

Regarding Kohli’s career longevity, Sharma dismissed retirement rumors. “Virat is fit and will continue playing for at least five more years. He will likely participate in the 2027 World Cup in South Africa,” he added. Sharma emphasized Kohli’s passion for cricket and his ability to perform under pressure.

As Kohli continues to shine on the field, his potential relocation marks a new chapter for the cricket icon and his family.

Sudurpaschim Royals in NPL final

Sudurpaschim Royals in NPL final! Binod Bhandari’s unbeaten half-century guided Sudurpaschim Royals to an emphatic eight-wicket win against Janakpur Bolts, securing their spot in the NPL final. Chasing a target of 140, Bhandari displayed exceptional composure, scoring 58 runs off 55 balls. His partnerships with Saif Zaib and Brandon McMullen were instrumental in steadying the chase after an early loss of wickets.

The Royals’ bowling unit also played a crucial role, with captain Dipendra Singh Airee taking three wickets! Restricting Janakpur Bolts to a modest total. Airee’s leadership with the ball ensured the Royals maintained control throughout the first innings. Janakpur Bolts struggled to build momentum, with only James Neesham and Subash Khakurel making notable contributions of 44 and 26 runs, respectively.

Bhandari’s calculated innings included strategic boundaries and well-timed strikes, proving his experience and resilience in pressure situations. His efforts were well-supported by Saif Zaib, who contributed a steady 30 runs, and McMullen, who added 20 to ensure a smooth chase.

The victory sends Sudurpaschim Royals into the final, where they will face the winner of the second qualifier. The Royals’ all-around performance underlined their strength as a cohesive unit, showcasing both batting depth and bowling prowess.
