IPL 2024: AB De Villiers sounds warning bells for Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of new season
Former South African and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) great AB de Villiers has sounded out a huge warning to his former IPL team. This comes after Royal Challengers Bangalore had released quite a few big names on Sunday.
As per the former RCB great, the release of three key bowlers could come back to haunt the team. Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood, and Harshal Patel are the three players who were released by the franchise recently.
While Harshal Patel’s release was on the expected lines, cutting ties with Hasaranga and Hazlewood surprised lots of fans. RCB released Wanindu Hasaranga after his debut season in 2021 only to buy him back a year later for a huge sum of money.
AB De Villiers warns RCB ahead of new season –
De Villiers was recently speaking live on his YouTube Channel. The 39-year-old came up with a huge warning for his former side over their release past Sunday.
ABD said “It has been a well-known fact that RCB’s bowling has been an area of weakness over the years. Yes, the batters also made a mess at times, but you need to play as a team. You need to gel each other and understand each other. More often than not, there has been this feeling of making silly mistakes, not getting the discipline right, not doing the basics well under pressure. We know how difficult it is to bowl at the Chinnaswamy Stadium”
The legendary batter was also surprised at the fact that RCB had let go of their three main bowling lynchpins. Josh Hazlewood has been a huge asset for Faf Du Plessis while Wanindu Hasaranga was seen as a genuine match-winner. Harshal Patel too was a huge figure in the RCB dressing room since his IPL 2021 exploits.
AB De Villiers further said “It is the area where I would be worried. Obviously, there is Mohammed Siraj there, Reece Topley, and some experience there, but if you see the released list, they let go of Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood, and Harshal Patel”
The former South African batter continued “Those three have won them a lot of games in the last couple of seasons, especially Hazlewood; he had this way of controlling the bowling line-up” he said.
