Indian skipper and star batter Rohit Sharma has now become the batter with the most number of sixes in ODIs in one calendar year. He surpassed the former legendary South African batter Ab de Villiers. Rohit has now 60 sixes in the ongoing calendar year of 2023, surpassing the record of 58 sixes which was achieved by De Villiers in 8 years back in the year 2015.

The third name in this list following Rohit Sharma and AB de Villiers, is none other than the legendary Caribbean batter Chris Gayle, who smashed 56 sixes fours years back in the year 2019. Before Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, the former Pakistan great and star all-rounder Shahid Afridi held this record for 13 years since it was broken by De Villiers in 2015.

Afridi smashed 48 sixes in a calendar year 21 years back in the year 2002. Coming back to the ongoing calendar year 2023, the star UAE batter Muhammad Waseem is also on the list of the batters having the most number of sixes to their names, alongside Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. Waseem has smashed 47 sixes in the current calendar year of 2023.

This achievement for the Indian captain has garnered a lot of reactions from the Indian cricket fans over X (formerly Twitter).

Speaking of the ongoing action of the match between India and the Netherlands, the hosts India are batting first after winning the toss; they have scored 122 runs for the loss of one wicket in 15.5 overs, having skipper Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli there in the middle at the individual scores of 61 and 6 runs, respectively.

Earlier, Shubman Gill also scored a crucial half-century, scoring 51 runs before falling prey to Paul van Meekeren after stitching a 100-run opening partnership for the first wicket with skipper Rohit Sharma.
