MS Dhoni & Deepak Chahar

MS Dhoni is undoubtedly one of the most successful captains in cricket history, having won three major international titles with Team India and five with Chennai Super Kings. Apart from his captaincy brilliance, the 42-year-old’s camaraderie with his teammates also plays a major role in his success.

It is routine for youngsters to learn vital lessons from Dhoni after each match since he is a master at nurturing talent. Dhoni has been the captain of CSK since the league’s inception in 2008, and the franchise has produced many champion players over the years and helped some veterans return to form.

CSK pacer Deepak Chahar is one of those groomed under the former Indian captain. The 30-year-old right-arm seamer and Dhoni have been together in the Indian Premier League since 2016. They played together in Rising Pune Supergiant for the first two seasons and when CSK returned in 2018, Chahar was bought by the Chennai-based franchise following Dhoni’s suggestion.

He is maturing but he takes time & that is the problem: Dhoni on Chahar

The Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer later became an integral part of CSK, which also helped him earn a spot in the Indian team. Meanwhile, the legendary cricketer has now shared his views about Chahar, saying he is yet to mature and that he does not believe it will happen anytime soon.

“Deepak Chahar is like a drug, if he is not there, you would think, where is he – if he is around, you would think, why he is here – good part is that he is maturing but he takes time & that is the problem, in my lifetime, I won’t see him matured (smiles),” the wicket-keeper batter said.

The last time the two were on the field together was in the IPL 2023 final when CSK won the coveted crown for the record fifth time. There are rumors that the 16th edition of IPL was Dhoni’s last dance as a player, but he has not made any such statement and his fans believe that he will play in the next season as well.

Here’s how fans reacted to Dhoni’s comments about Deepak Chahar:
