‘Chinnaswamy saved MI from defeat’ – Fans react as MI women overcome DC women in WPL 2024 inaugural thriller game

Published

on

The 2nd edition of the WPL began on a fantastic note, as MI women and DC women provided a thrilling game for the fans. Before the match, there was an inaugural ceremony where some of the top Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor, and others lit up the stadium with their dance performances. What followed was a good action between bat and ball.

Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bowl, considering the dew factor. It was indeed a good decision, as the ball was not easy to hit in the first few overs. DC underwent the pressure and managed to score only six runs by losing a wicket in their batting powerplay. It turned out to be the eventual crucial factor in the game.

Shabnim Ismail was brilliant with the ball for MI. So was Nat Sciver, who claimed wickets in the middle overs. For Delhi Capitals, the duo of Alex Capsey and Jemimah Rodrigues batted well in the middle. Capsey scored runs when the going was tough. Jemimah was handy with her 42(24). The duo ensured that DC women put a good total of 171 runs on the board.

S Sajana finishes in style for MI women

MI women found a good partnership between Yastika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur. The Indian duo batted well in the middle. While Yastika started on a good note and continued it in the middle overs, Kaur bossed the middle overs with her striking ability. Both the batters got to their fifties and threatened to take the game away from DC women. A huge inspiration was needed for the defending side.

DC clawed back into the game by dismissing both the set batters. They then put pressure on the new batters. MI women did not give up and tried to be in the game by constantly scoring the runs. However, things were a bit tricky for the chasing side. Five runs were needed in the last ball when S Sajana was asked to face her very first ball in the WPL. She stunned the world with a match-winning six.

Here’s how the fans reacted to the thriller –

Following India’s heavy loss to Australia in the first Test of the series, Australian media highlighted key concerns for the Indian team, including Rohit Sharma’s performance as captain. Pat Cummins and his team’s emphatic win by 209 runs sparked discussions about India’s bowling strategy and batting collapse.

Australian newspapers like The Age underscored Mitchell Starc’s lethal bowling display as a stark reminder of his prowess in Test cricket. Starc’s fiery spell dismantled India’s top order, a performance seen as pivotal in Australia’s dominant victory. The media also pointed out the pressure mounting on Rohit Sharma for tactical shortcomings, including field placements and decision-making under challenging circumstances.

India’s batting lineup faltered against Australia’s aggressive bowling, with only a few players resisting. Critics emphasized that the Indian team’s inability to adapt to the pink-ball conditions in Adelaide cost them dearly. The media also praised Australia for its disciplined approach, particularly the consistency of its pace attack, which Starc and Cummins led.

As the series progresses, this defeat puts India under immense pressure to bounce back, especially with the spotlight on Rohit Sharma’s leadership and the team’s resilience. Fans now await India’s response in the next Test.
