A shocking incident took place in Pakistan when the ex-cricketer and former Prime Minister of the nation Imran Khan got arrested on Saturday, August 5. He has been sentenced to 3 years of jail in the Toshakhana case. He is also banned from any political activity for the next 5 years.

Meanwhile, Pakistan premium pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has backed Imran and supported him by making his Twitter profile picture black. He also supported Imran on the social media platform after the former Pakistan cricket team captain was arrested in May earlier this year. Many fans have appreciated this gesture of Shaheen, while some criticised him for supporting Imran.

Imran was accused of making profits from selling expensive gifts while he was serving as Pakistan’s prime minister and also avoid the court’s hearing. However, after the verdict of the court, he was arrested from his residence in Lahore and sent to Islamabad jail.

“Charges of misdeclaration of assets have been proven against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman. Imran Khan deliberately submitted fake details (of Toshakhana gifts) to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and is found guilty of corrupt practices,” the verdict said.

Imran Khan is facing multiple cases

When Imran became Prime Minister, the Pakistan cricket community gave him a lot of support. Earlier this year, when the former Prime Minister escaped an attempt on his life, a number of cricketers, notably Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, denounced the crime. More than 150 court complaints have been filed against Khan, including some on allegations of corruption, terrorism, and inciting violence in the wake of violent riots.

Khan is facing more than 140 cases across the country and faces charges like terrorism, violence, blasphemy, corruption and murder. Khan was ousted from power in April last year after losing a no-confidence vote, which he alleged was part of a US-led conspiracy targeting him because of his independent foreign policy decisions on Russia, China and Afghanistan.
