Day 2 of the 2nd Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka got washed out due to the heavy rain in Colombo. The second Test of the 2-match Test series is being played at the Sinhalese Sports Club where the Men in Green have taken a 12 runs lead over Sri Lanka in the first innings.

The 2nd day of the match witnessed only 10 overs after which it started raining heavily and the play never continued from there. Pakistan batters Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam scored 33 runs in the 10 overs he played on Day 2. According to reports, the forecast is not looking promising on Day 3 as well, so it is expected that Pakistan will play aggressively.

Talking about the match, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. But the decision didn’t affect Pakistan as they produced a brilliant bowling and fielding display in the first innings and bundled out Sri Lanka on the score of just 166 runs. Sri Lanka’s top-order failed miserably, however, Dhanajay de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal stitched an 85-run stand for the 5th wicket. De Silva scored a magnificent half-century.

My dismissals were a bit freaky in this series: Shan Masood

Abrar Ahmed picked up 4 wickets with a brilliant display of spin bowling. On the other hand, Naseem Shah clinched 3 wickets, while Shaheen Afridi managed to get one. In reply, Pakistan lost their 1st wicket on the score of just 13 runs. But Shafique and Shan Masood batted brilliantly, especially Masood who showed his aggressive game style and scored 51 runs off just 47 balls. After the conclusion of Day 1, Masood revealed that he was very disappointed with the way he got dismissed.

Very disappointed, my dismissals were a bit freaky in this series so far, both in Galle and yesterday, came at chest high and I somehow top-edged it straight to the fielder. The surface ain’t that bad, it does keep you honest with a bit more bounce. You can’t trust going back to the spinners, but you can play your shots against the bowlers.” Masood said after Day 1.

Gautam Gambhir Criticized for Treatment of Ravindra Jadeja Despite Stellar All-Rounder Stats

Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian cricketer and current commentator, is under fire for his comments regarding Ravindra Jadeja’s one of India’s premier all-rounders. Fans and analysts have taken issue with Gambhir’s critique, especially in light of Ravindra Jadeja’s remarkable achievements that position him among the game’s elite players.

Ravindra Jadeja, the ICC’s No. 1-ranked all-rounder, boasts impressive statistics that surpass even some of cricket’s legends, including Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, in certain contexts. His contributions with both bat and ball have been crucial for India in all formats of the game, yet Gambhir’s recent remarks seem to downplay these feats.

Statistically, Jadeja’s consistency is unparalleled. He has maintained high averages and strike rates while excelling in bowling under pressure. Fans argue that comparing his numbers to cricket greats reveals his immense value to Indian cricket. His performances in Test matches, particularly in challenging overseas conditions, have been instrumental in India’s success.

Critics of Gambhir’s stance assert that his remarks undermine Jadeja’s legacy as an all-rounder. Social media platforms were flooded with support for Jadeja, highlighting his match-winning contributions and unmatched versatility. Fans have called for greater recognition of the all-rounder’s achievements, urging commentators like Gambhir to acknowledge his importance.

With the ICC World Test Championship qualification at stake, this match plays a pivotal role in deciding India’s pathway to the final. Rain interruptions have hindered Australia’s push to enforce the follow-on, giving India a potential lifeline.

Australia took an early lead in the match, showcasing dominant performances with both bat and ball. However, persistent rainfall has disrupted their plans to finish the game strongly. For India, the inclement weather has provided a much-needed opportunity to recover and aim for a draw, which is crucial for keeping their WTC hopes alive.

Currently, Australia sits comfortably at the top of the WTC standings (India’s WTC Final chances), while India faces mounting pressure to secure crucial points.
