‘Apna opinion apne paas rakh’ – Fans react as Ravichandran Ashwin reveals George Bailey’s take on opting to bowl first in ODI WC final 2023
The decision of Pat Cummins to bowl first in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 surprised many, as not many expected them to do so. The experts pointed out why bowling first was a good decision in the final, given how things panned out in the end. the batters found it easy to score under the lights. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne batted for the entire middle-overs phase.
After the match, David Warner claimed that the decision to bowl first from Cummins turned out to be a good decision, as the bowlers in the first innings got the ball to grip, which was not necessarily the case in the second innings. The discussion regarding the same happened between Ravichandran Ashwin and George Bailey off the field. Ashwin revealed about it on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin revealed that he asked Bailey the intention behind opting to bowl first in the final, which is not the case usually with the Australian team. “Australia deceived me personally, I had a chat with George Bailey during the mid-innings, and I asked him why didn’t you guys bat first like you always do,” said the Indian spinner, who was in the ODI World Cup 2023 squad of India.
‘We have played IPL & Bilateral series here a lot’ – George Bailey
The reply of George Bailey was gold, as he seemed to be aware of the Indian conditions almost perfectly. Bailey gave insights about the difference like pitches and the way they react in the daytime and the nighttime. Bailey said that the impact of dew on the red soil pitch was not going to be much, compared to that of the black soil pitch at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad.
“He answered back, we have played IPL & Bilateral series here a lot – red soil disintegrates but not black soil & it gets better under lights – no impact on the dew on red soil but black soil has a good turn in the afternoon & then it will be some concrete in night – this is our experience,” said Ashwin, as he revealed about Bailey’s analysis.
Here’s how the fans reacted to it –
