Australia and England penalised for slow over rate

While the Ashes 2023 didn’t have a winner, the ‘Urn’ stays in possession of the Aussie man. Australia took an early lead in the series, winning the first two games. However, England made a great comeback in the third Test at Headingley. They were on the brink of drawing the series in the fourth Test at Manchester when rain decided to play spoilsport for the hosts. They won the final game, drawing the series. But Australia successfully retained the Urn for the fourth consecutive time.

While it was an amazing series full of entertainment, it came back to haunt both teams with deductions over slow over rates. Under the revised provisions by the Apex Cricket Council, the two teams were fined five percent of their match fee and one point deduction for every slow over. While Australia lost 10 points over their violations in the series, England lost a massive 19 points. Any team earns 12 points for every game won, four for a draw, and no points for a loss. The regulation for overs bowled in 90 per day.

Pakistan lead the WTC 2023-25 standings

England were short by two overs in Test 1 at Edgbaston, nine at Lord’s, three at Old Trafford, and five in the final Test at the Oval, London. Australia, on the other hand, were short by 10 overs in the Manchester Test. Talking of the series, it was closely fought and ended in a 2-2 stalemate between the two stalwarts of Test Cricket. Mitchell Starc was awarded the ‘Player of the Series’ award for his exceptional bowling.

Gautam Gambhir Criticized for Treatment of Ravindra Jadeja Despite Stellar All-Rounder Stats

Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian cricketer and current commentator, is under fire for his comments regarding Ravindra Jadeja’s one of India’s premier all-rounders. Fans and analysts have taken issue with Gambhir’s critique, especially in light of Ravindra Jadeja’s remarkable achievements that position him among the game’s elite players.

Ravindra Jadeja, the ICC’s No. 1-ranked all-rounder, boasts impressive statistics that surpass even some of cricket’s legends, including Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, in certain contexts. His contributions with both bat and ball have been crucial for India in all formats of the game, yet Gambhir’s recent remarks seem to downplay these feats.

Statistically, Jadeja’s consistency is unparalleled. He has maintained high averages and strike rates while excelling in bowling under pressure. Fans argue that comparing his numbers to cricket greats reveals his immense value to Indian cricket. His performances in Test matches, particularly in challenging overseas conditions, have been instrumental in India’s success.

Critics of Gambhir’s stance assert that his remarks undermine Jadeja’s legacy as an all-rounder. Social media platforms were flooded with support for Jadeja, highlighting his match-winning contributions and unmatched versatility. Fans have called for greater recognition of the all-rounder’s achievements, urging commentators like Gambhir to acknowledge his importance.

Rain interruptions have hindered Australia’s push to enforce the follow-on, giving India a potential lifeline.

Australia took an early lead in the match, showcasing dominant performances with both bat and ball. However, persistent rainfall has disrupted their plans to finish the game strongly.
