‘Ab covid bhi casual fever ho gaya’ – Fans react as Cameron Green takes part in 2nd Test against West Indies despite being tested with Covid positive
Cameron Green is playing for Australia despite having tested positive for COVID-19. The star all-rounder separated himself from the rest of the players during the national anthem session between both teams before the start of the match. Recently, reports indicated that Green was suffering from COVID-19 after Travis Head tested positive for the same.
COVID-19 has reappeared in cricket dugouts recently. Three players from Australia including the coach and a player from New Zealand have tested positive for COVID-19 in recent times. The likes of Travis Head, Green himself, and the Australian head coach Andrew McDonald have tested positive recently from the Australian dugout. It has been a concern for the fans and the cricket fraternity.
On the other hand, Mitchell Santner has been tested positive from New Zealand. Looks like the players will have to be wary of the challenges they have to overcome in the dressing room given so many cases being registered in recent times. The players however would be looking forward to playing cricket for their team. It is worth noting that many players got COVID-19 in the past at the peak of the pandemic in 2020.
Australia get an early wicket against West Indies
After the toss, the West Indies opted to bat first in the pink-ball Test match. The Australian pacers operated in good line and length. The new ball duo of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood gave nothing away for the batters. the way the two bowled meant that the skipper of the visiting side, Kraigg Brathwaite, had to hole one out of Hazlewood’s bowling.
In the first 8 overs of the match, Australia conceded only 9 runs. It meant that the WI batters had to try something out of the box. In the D/N Test matches, Australia has not lost a Test. The home side would be looking forward to the record intact. West Indies would be looking forward to creating history by becoming the first side to beat Australia in a pink-ball Test match.
