3 reasons why Cameron Green can be a game changer for RCB

Cameron Green

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) made a massive move right ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction. In what could be seen as a helping hand for Mumbai Indians (MI), the Bangalore-based franchise traded the Australian all-rounder for a massive sum of Rs 17.5 crore. MI wanted to land their former all-rounder Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans (GT) and by trading Green they got enough money in the bank.

In this article, we examine three reasons why Cameron Green could be a game-changer for RCB

#1. Excellent record in India

Cameron Green made his IPL debut last season for MI and proved as a valuable asset to the team in both departments. The Aussie young gun scored 452 runs at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 160 with two fifties and a century. He also picked up six wickets. In fact, he was one of the main reasons why MI made it to the playoffs.

Apart from his heroics in the cash-rich league, he also hit two blazing half-centuries as a T20I opener for Australia last year. He proved that he is an all-format player with his maiden Test century in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad last year. Indian conditions are among the most difficult to play in and Green has shown his skills.

#2. Relief for RCB’s middle-order woes

“He’s the ideal fit for us in that middle-order power role,” RCB’s director of cricket Mo Bobat said. RCB’s top order has not been a problem, but their middle order has been inconsistent in the past. However, that problem seems to have been solved with the addition of Green. He is a power-hitter and can destroy the bowlers right from the word go. He can be dangerous, especially at Chinnaswamy, RCB’s home ground. Notably, the 24-year-old is a versatile batter as he can bat in the top order as well, according to the team’s needs.

#1. Green can be a long-term investment for RCB

Green has already shown what he’s capable of and management may consider him a long-term investment. The Australians are match-winners and Green can work wonders in both departments along with his national teammate Glenn Maxwell. As RCB’s current skipper Faf du Plessis is already 39 years old, they need to find a possible captain for the coming seasons. If Green continues his fine form with the franchise, he is likely to get a leadership position.

Nepal Premier League Final

Nepal Premier League Final! Janakpur Bolts clinched the inaugural Nepal Premier League title by defeating Sudurpaschim Royals in a thrilling final. The Bolts showcased remarkable resilience, chasing down a target of 187 runs with five wickets in hand at the TU International Cricket Ground.

Sudurpaschim Royals, batting first, set a competitive total of 184 for nine wickets, led by Saif Zaib and Binod Bhandari. Zaib scored a solid 69 runs, while Bhandari added a crucial 41.
