Umar Akmal and Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj lit up the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on 17 September with his six-wicket haul in the final against Sri Lanka. They got bundled out for just 50 runs and India won the Asia Cup final with ease. Siraj won the Player of the Match award also and seeing such a magical spell, fans were left crazy.

The Pakistan cricketer, Umar Akmal also came up with an appreciation tweet for Siraj and wrote: “You was amazing in finals @mdsirajofficial and congratulations team India @Indian Cricket Board #AsiaCup #INDvSL.” But, there was a grammatical mistake as he used ‘was’ instead of ‘were’ with ‘you’. That did not go unnoticed by fans and they shared their views on social media.

“Definitely my best spell” – Mohammed Siraj

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Mohammed Siraj said: “I have been bowling well for a while. The batters were getting beaten for the last two matches, today I found the edges. I just tried to hit the areas. The wicket was seaming for the last two matches, today there was swing so I tried to make the batters play as much as possible. Because it was swinging, I thought of putting the balls up to the batters. The way I thought, I executed it and the plan was successful.”

“[On the pitch] The pitch was very good, was getting decent swing early, and I felt it was a bit damp. [On bowling alongside Pandya and Bumrah] When the fast bowler’s bonding is so good that the pressure is created and we get wickets at the other end, it helps the team. [On running after the ball to save a four] Just wanted to save the boundary, but it didn’t happen. Definitely my best spell,” he further added.

Siraj also said that he would dedicate the cash amount to Sri Lanka’s groundsmen as a toke of appreciation. “I want to give this cash prize to the groundsmen. They deserve it. If they were not around, this tournament would not have been successful,” the Team India pacer concluded.
