King Kohli Top 5 greatest T20I knocks

Melbourne(AP)

ICC has shared Virat Kohli’s top 5 T20I knocks.

After yet another magical effort to save his country, Virat Kohli once again solidified his credentials as one the game’s all-time greats, making 82* from 53 in a spectacular performance against Pakistan on Sunday

In chases across the five T20 World Cup campaigns, Kohli has made 541 runs at a strike rate of 135.92. Dismissed only twice in his ten knocks, Kohli’s latest match-winning effort means his average has soared to 270.50.

Top 5 magical knocks by Virat Kohli

78* (61) v Pakistan, Colombo (RPS), 2012

Kohli made just 16 from his first 19 deliveries, but he went on to score 78 runs off just 61 balls, he finished with eight fours and two sixes, cruising to victory with 18 balls remaining, and vitally keeping his team alive in the competition.

“The key is to stay as calm as possible. In the last game I thought a bit too much. The idea is to play 10-15 overs and the team benefits from it. (It was) a slow wicket but better under lights.” Kohli said after the match

72* (44) v South Africa, Mirpur, 2014

South Africa had never lost a T20I after posting a score in excess of 170 to this point, and after making 172 in the 2014 T20 World Cup semi-final, but Virat Kohli had different ideas.

Virat Kohli scored 72* from 44 balls to lead India to a famous victory at Mirpur. Joined by Suresh Raina in the middle went on to score 40 runs off the last 4 overs to steer India to a comfortable win with five balls remaining.

“Today was one of those days when I had to keep my cool,” after accepting the Player of the Match trophy. In T20s, I look at the target in number of runs and overs to go, not runs and balls to go. Overs makes it look easier.” Kohli said

55* (37) v Pakistan, Kolkata, 2016

Another one of Virat Kohli’s magical knock came against his favourite opposition Pakistan at Eden Gardens. Virat Kohli’s 55 runs off 37 balls helped India seal the win with 18 balls to spare.

“It was a challenging wicket, that’s what you want as a cricketer – new challenges to play,” he said.

“But getting the team out of trouble gives me pleasure. The focus becomes much more on such wickets. I think the score on the board makes me a better chaser.”

82* (51) v Australia, Mohali, 2016

India were set 161 for victory, with the required rate in the chase climbing over 10, and eventually close to 12 with four overs left, and eventually close to 12 with four overs left. Kohli timed his run to perfection though, taking 19 runs off the 18th over from James Faulkner, and 16 of Nathan Coulter-Nile

Virat Kohli finished off the chase with hitting Faulkner to finish off the game and rated this innings as one of his best ever. “This innings has to be in my top three, perhaps the top right now because I am a bit emotional.” he said after the match

82* (53) v Pakistan, Melbourne, 2022

The great man once again proved his mettle in front of a packed 90,000 MCG ground in a high octane clash against Pakistan.

Kohli came to the crease in the second over when KL Rahul (4) fell to Naseem Shah, and after a Powerplay of 31/3, and 31/4 straight after with the loss of Axar Patel, Pakistan looked on course to a big victory.

But Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya had other ideas. The pair put on 103, and set up a final assault. Pandya fell on the first delivery of the final over, though Kohli carried on, putting Mohammad Nawaz into the stands off a waist high full toss to make it six runs required from the final three deliveries. He took runs off the free hit which eventually moved India within inches of a incredible victory. Ravichandran Ashwin loft over the off-side to deliver a famous victory for Team India

“Standing here I just feel like it was meant to be. Till today Mohali was my best innings against Australia. Today I will count this one higher.”

During the case, he kept playing for the team, notably during the Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup qualifier in June last year. After the case was filed, he was playing for eventual winners, Jamaica Tallawahs. The leg-spinner was released from the team and was taken into custody.

“I know I am facing a difficult time of conspiracy and wrongful allegation and the ramification of its effect is something unimaginable. I am sure there must be some mechanism of compensating to the accused who proven to be innocent in our legal system,” he wrote. “I will soon seek legal support against wrongful prosecution and allegation made against me and I am sure I will get the justice and will return to the cricket ground soon to make the name and fame of my beloved country and I pray for speedy trial.”

After landing home, the former Delhi Capitals player claimed that the allegations made against him were baseless.

“All these things affected me mentally on one hand and on the other hand, I had to go through illness, and due to mental stress and ill health I kept myself in isolation. I have been mentally and physically affected by the portrayal and I have reached a state of imbalance and I have been bringing myself back to a normal state under the advice of doctors. My health is gradually improving, and I am planning to return to Nepal as soon as possible to defend against the false complaint against me,” the leggie wrote on Facebook in September 2022.

Talking about the current status, the bench also slapped him with a fine of Rs 300,000 (USD 2255 approx) and ordered him to pay Rs 200,000 (USD 1500 approx) in compensation to the victim. Lamichhane’s lawyer, Saroj Ghimire, told AFP that he “will appeal the decision in a higher court.”
