‘You did not ask about Jadeja?’ – Rohit Sharma shuts reporter after being asked about him and Virat Kohli missing out T20I cricket
Indian Cricket team are currently focusing on middle-order batting experiments ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. The tournament is less than 2 months away but the Men in Blue are still struggling to find a perfect XI in the ODI format. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli were rested during the recently concluded ODI series against West Indies. However, they are also not playing in the ongoing T20I series against the Windies.
Meanwhile, Rohit recently attended a football event arranged by La Liga where he talked about India’s never-ending experimental phase. He said that the team did the same thing last year ahead of the T20 World Cup. The right-hander believes that they shouldn’t play everything and get ready for the grand event. Amid all the focus on Rohit and Virat, the 36-year-old questioned the media why they don’t ask about Ravindra Jadeja who is also a senior member of the team.
“Last year also we did the same thing — the T20 World Cup was there, so we didn’t play one-day cricket. Now also we are doing the same, the ODI World Cup is there, so we are not playing T20s. You can’t play everything and be ready for the World Cup. We decided this two years ago. (Ravindra) Jadeja is also not playing T20, you did not ask about him? I understand the focus (on himself and Virat). But Jadeja is also not playing,”
You don’t get World Cups on a platter: Rohit Sharma
The last time India won an ODI World Cup was in 2011 under the former legendary Indian skipper MS Dhoni. And now, the Rohit Sharma-led side are desperate to win a major event. Neither Kohli nor Rohit have played a single T20I match since the last year’s T20 World Cup semifinal as they want to focus on the ODI World Cup for now.
“Honestly, I have never won a (50 overs) World Cup, it’s a dream to win a World Cup and to be here fighting for it nothing makes me happier than that. You don’t get World Cups on a platter, you have to really work hard and that is what we have been doing all these years from 2011 till now we all are fighting for it,”
