Unlike Dean Elgar, David Warner ended his farewell Test on a high as Australia defeated Pakistan by eight wickets at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday. Pakistan elongates their 29-year-old wait to win a Test match against Australia. Throughout the series, they came closer but could not cross the line. Australia continues their home dominance with a convincing 3-0 whitewash against Pakistan. Although Pakistan had their moments in the match, they faltered at crucial junctures, mirroring their performance at the MCG in a previous encounter.

Talking about the game, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. The Men in Green did not have the best of starts as they were bundled out for 313 in their first innings. The star all-rounder Aamer Jamal (82) and Mohammad Rizwan (88) made sure that Pakistan posted a decent total on the pitch. For Australia, it was once again it was Pat Cummins who stole the show with a fifer.

In reply to the total, the retiring Warner (34) made a fighting start to innings along with Usman Khawaja (47). All the Aussie batters got the starts but none of them were able to convert it. It resulted in them falling short of Pakistan’s first innings total by 14 runs. The star again for Pakistan with the ball was Aamer Jamal, who registered his second six-fer.

Warner signs off with a half-century in his last innings

After relishing of tender lead the Australian bowlers came out all guns blazing. Both the new ball bowlers, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood bowl with absolute venom. They demolished the Pakistan’s top order. The Pakistan team lost their first wicket in the very first over. With the ball griping on the fourth day of the match Nathan Lyon was unplayable to the Pakistan batters. The entire Pakistan batting lineup succumbed under Australian bowling and were bowled out for just 115.

With 130 runs to win, the start was all about retiring David Warner (57) who called curtains on his 12 years of illustrious career. The pocket-sized dynamo signed off in swashbuckling style in his final Test innings and was very well supported by Marnus Labuschagne (62).
