Pakistan’s ongoing tour of Australia doesn’t seem to have been going in the Asian team’s way. In the first Test, the team lost by 360 runs. In the next game, the Shaheens played with grit and determination but the Aussies managed to get a win and the series. After trailing by 0-2, the Shan Masood-led side won the toss and elected to bat first.

However, once again, their top-order struggled and were reduced to 47/4. Debutant Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique bagged a duck and went back to the pavilion in the first two overs. Former skipper Babar Azam (26) started well but was trapped lbw by Aussie skipper Pat Cummins. Saud Shakeel’s failure with the bat continued. At this stage, the likes of Masood and Mohammad Rizwan put together 49 runs for the fifth wicket.

Mohammad Rizwan’s counter-attacking innings brings some respectability

The wicketkeeper batter, who didn’t play in the first Test, kept the team in the game in the Boxing Day Test in the last week of 2023. Meanwhile, Masood, who got a reprieve due to a no-ball from Mitchell Marsh got out to the same bowler. With this, the team was reduced to 96/5.

At this point, the likes of Rizwan and Salman Agha put together 94 runs for the sixth wicket. The former hit 88 off just 103 balls including 10 fours and two sixes. On the other hand, Agha played an inning of 53 off 67 balls including eight fours. The former missed out on a well-deserved as he was caught at long-on by Josh Hazlewood off Cummins. At the time of writing, the Asian side has amassed 227/9 with Ameer Jamal and Mir Hamza batting at the crease. Once again, Cummins took another five-wicket haul, coming off a double-five-wicket haul.
