AB de Villiers gives his opinion on price tag of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins in IPL 2024
Ab De Villiers has given his opinion on the price tag of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins in the IPL mini-auction 2024. The former South African captain who was himself one of the highest-paid cricketers in the IPL in the past, had his take on the huge amount the quicks bagged in the mini-auction. Even De Villiers was surprised by the amount they got from the franchises.
De Villiers took to his YouTube channel, where he was up for a Q & session with his followers. One of the questions for the former South Africa captain was his view on the auction and the strategies of the teams for the same. It was asked about the way different teams went about their business in the auctions to get the players they felt were needed to bring in the balance and skills.
De Villiers praised some of the smart buys made by the sides like Mumbai Indians and CSK, who did not spend much on most of the players yet got some very good players that could do the job for them. De Villiers felt that CSK and MI make smart buys by the skills of the players and not make emotional buys in the auction. De Villiers thought that CSK and MI were successful for the same reason.
There was demand for fast bowlers in this year’s auction – AB De Villiers
“I couldn’t agree more. Some very smart buys. Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and other teams that do well in the IPL do well in the auction as well. They make smart buys and not emotional buys,” said De Villiers. The former SA batter than gave his opinion on the price tag of Pat Cummins and Starc. He said that the two are incredible players and added that the price tag was unbelievable.
The unorthodox batter felt that there was a huge demand for the pacers in the auction, which was the reason behind their price tag. “Cummins and Starc, are both incredible players, but really, for that price? It just shows you the demand. There was demand for fast bowlers in this year’s auction and when the demand goes up, the price goes up,” said De Villiers.
