Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur is still hopeful for his team’s semifinal qualification in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Ahead of the Pakistan vs South Africa match in the tournament, the 1992 winners needed to win to keep their semis alive and in their hands. In the game, the Green Brigade won the toss and batted first. They managed only 270 all-out with a few overs left in the tank.

However, despite the Proteas dominating the game with 235/5 in 36.4 overs, the Pakistani bowlers managed to make a comeback in the game as they took nine wickets for 260 runs with 11 runs in the bank. The last pair of Tabraz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj managed to take the team past the 270 runs and win the game by one wicket. With this, the African managed to win their first game in the tournament batting second.

With this loss, the Asian side has only three games left against New Zealand, Bangladesh, and England. They need a lot of results to go their way.
