‘Shayad dil dil Pakistan sunne gaya hoga’ – Fans react as furious Mickey Arthur storms into dressing room after Pakistan’s horrible bowling display against Afghanistan

The 22nd match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 saw Pakistan’s team director, Mickey Arthur, left seething with frustration as he witnessed his team’s lacklustre bowling performance against Afghanistan. Chasing a target of 283 for victory, Afghanistan’s opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran made a blazing start, putting on over 100 runs for the first wicket.

The Pakistani pacers struggled to find their rhythm, leaking runs with the new ball, which left Arthur visibly irked. In an attempt to turn the tide, leg-spinner Usama Mir was introduced into the attack in the 11th over. However, the situation didn’t improve immediately as Usama’s first over produced a short and wide delivery that Zadran dispatched to the boundary.

This lapse in bowling quality pushed Arthur over the edge. Frustrated by his team’s execution of plans, he stormed into the dressing room, leaving no doubt that he was far from pleased with Pakistan’s performance on the field. With their chances hanging in the balance, it remains to be seen if the Pakistani bowlers can bounce back and redeem themselves in the later stages of the game.

Brilliant bowling performance by Afghanistan

Earlier in the match, Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, won the toss and chose to open the batting at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Leading by example, the skipper played a crucial role by scoring 74 runs, contributing to Pakistan’s total of 282/7 in their allotted 50 overs.

Interestingly, Pakistan started brilliantly as Abdullah Shafique and Babar were batting beautifully in the middle but Afghanistan’s debutant Noor Ahmad, who was making his ODI World Cup debut, got rid of Shafique in the 23rd over. After which the Pakistan batting lineup was dismantled. Babar also departed at a crucial stage. However, the partnership between Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan helped Pakistan to put up a respectable total on the scoreboard.
