Amidst the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, star England all-rounders Ben Stokes and Liam Livingstone narrowly escape an accident in Delhi. In a recent social media post, Stokes revealed how an autorickshaw narrowly avoided a collapse with a car in the national capital.

While speaking on The Athlete’s Voice by 4CAST, Stokes recounted a nerve-wracking incident that occurred during one of his autorickshaw rides with Livingstone and England’s strength and conditioning coach, Andy Mitchell. According to Stokes, their autorickshaw narrowly avoided a collision with a white car. “So, me and Livi [Liam Livingstone] are pretty big lads, and we also had our strength and conditioning coach, Mitch [Andy Mitchell], who is even bigger than us”, says Stokes.

Here is the video:

“Now, tuk-tuk’s aren’t very big. So, you can imagine that we were pretty squashed in the back of his tuk-tuk. This is the one I got [shows the video on his phone]… We were just running up to the roundabout here. He does not slow down, and, yeah, there he goes!”, he further added. It’s worth noting that Stokes missed the first two games of the ongoing tournament due to an injury.

Can England defend their ODI World Cup title?

After a series of poor performances in the ongoing tournament, defending champion England find themselves in the bottom of the points table. They are ninth in the ten-team tournament with two points in five games. The team will now need to win all of their remaining league games to stay alive in the semi-final race. In their next encounter, England will face hosts India, who have yet to be defeated in the ongoing tournament.

On the other hand, India will be looking to continue their winning run, as a win against England will seal their spot in the top four. The team will also look to avenge their 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal defeat, where England thrashed India by 10 wickets. However, the pitch at Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium will pose a unique challenge for both teams as it helps spin bowling.
