‘Aisa khelo ki log bole ki kya khela hai’ – Fans react as Liam Livingstone scores fighting 95 runs against New Zealand in second ODI

After losing the previous fixture by eight wickets, England locked horns with New Zealand in the second ODI of the four-match ODI series at The Rose Bowl, in Southampton, England on Sunday, September 10.

If we talk about the encounter, it was reduced to 34-overs a side game due to rain. The New Zealand skipper, Tom Latham won the toss and elected to bowl first keeping the rain in mind. While batting first, the hosts scored a total of 226 runs for the loss of seven wickets. The highest scorer of the side was Liam Livingstone who played an unbeaten knock of 95 runs off 78 balls with nine fours and a six in his innings.

New Zealand reached 109/3 in 20 overs

Liam Livingstone came into bat when the Three Lions were struggling at 55 runs for the loss of five wickets in just 12 overs. In the end, all-rounder, Sam Curran scored crucial 42 runs from 35 balls which included one four and two sixes in his innings.

The pick of the bowlers for the Kiwis was left-arm seamer, Trent Boult who snapped three wickets in his spell of seven overs where he conceded 37 runs in his spell and bowled one maiden over. He dismissed the likes Jonny Bairstow for six, Joe Root for duck, and Ben Stokes for just one run inside his three overs.

Two wickets was grabbed by right-arm speedster, Tim Southee in his spell of seven overs where he conceded 65 runs in his spell. One wicket each was bagged by right-arm pacer, Matt Henry and by left-arm orthodox, Mitchell Santner in their respective spell of seven overs where they conceded 42 runs and 38 runs, respectively.

After the completion of 20 overs, the Blackcaps are 109 runs for the loss of three wickets. Daryll Mitchell is batting on 38 runs off 35 balls with five foyrs while on the other hand, Latham is batting on 14 runs from 18 balls which included one four in his innings.
