Former India skipper Virat Kohli didn’t seem to be happy with the Mumbai crowd during ODI WC 2023 game against Sri Lanka. Apparently, in the 33rd game of the ongoing tournament, both teams played at the Wankhede Stadium. For the first time since the 2011 final, both teams played an ODI game at the venue. This time around, the Lankan Lions won the toss and chose to bowl first.

While the Men In Blue registered their biggest win (302 runs) in an ODI World Cup, Kohli was allegedly unhappy with the crowd’s behavior. Apparently, the crowd was chanting Sara Tendulkar’s name, who is alleged to be in a relationship with Shubman Gill. In reply, Kohli gestured the crowd to take Gill’s name.

Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli laid a platform for the big win

Batting first, skipper Rohit Sharma (4) lost his wicket on the second ball of the game. At this point, the likes of Gill and Kohli put together 189 runs for the second wicket. Both batters missed out on their hundred. After them, Shreyas Iyer also scored an 80-odd and Ravindra Jadeja played a cameo. Thanks to them, the two-time winners managed to get 357/8.

In reply, the 1996 winners had to relive the horrors of the Asia Cup 2023 this September. In that game, they were bowled out for 50 runs. In this game, at 29/8, they were staring down an embarrassing record by a team in an ODI game. However, thanks to Maheesh Theekshana and Kasun Rajitha, the team managed 55 runs, losing the game by 302 runs. This is the second-highest defeat for any team, with the Netherlands copping a 309-run thumping by Australia last month.
