The top 6 Asian teams are set to clash against each other in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 which will be jointly hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The tournament was set to be hosted entirely by Pakistan but the Indian Cricket Board refused to send their team to Pakistan.

The opening match of the tournament will be played between Pakistan and Nepal. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s star spinner Maheesh Theekshana, who also plays for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), recently did an interview with popular Indian sports journalist Boria Majumdar and said that he wants to take Virat Kohli’s wicket.

“I would like to get Virat out because I haven’t got him out anytime. I’d like that wicket. I hope I can get it done.”

You have to do some tricks and play with the mind of the batters: Maheesh Theekshana

Theekshana was asked about the secrets and techniques he uses to bowl against the veteran batters. In response, Theekshana said that the roles in ODI and T20I formats are different as in the 50-over format, it is important to take wickets at regular interval time. On the other hand in the shortest format, one can bowl economically without even thinking about taking wickets.

“I’ve no secrets. In T20s, I am always trying to give them singles. In T20s, no one is happy with singles. In 50 overs, the role is different, you have to get wickets in the middle overs. I’ve learnt that you have to change your field at some times. You have to do some tricks and play with the mind of the batters to get wickets. But bowling in the powerplay and bowling in the death, it’s different,” Theekshana said

“When you are bowling against better guys, you have to be mentally ready. As a bowler, I just try to do my basics right. I know if I do that, I will end up getting wickets. You have to keep it simple,” he added.
