The ongoing Ashes 2023 series has witnessed multiple heated moments between England and Australia so far. The Australian team won the first two Tests of the series and have taken a 2-0 lead over the English side. During the 2nd Test, England’s wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow made headlines after getting dismissed in a controversial manner.

Meanwhile, the right-hander has now sledged the Australian vice-captain Steve Smith after he was dismissed by Moeen Ali. During Australia’s second innings, in the 28th over, Smith tried to smash the ball to four but it could only find Ben Duckett on the short mid-wicket. After which, Bairstow said ‘See ya smudge’ when Smith was heading towards the pavilion.

However, Smith decided to hit back at Bairstow and asked “What was that mate? Hey?”. After which, the English wicketkeeper stopped his celebrations and said, “I said ‘cheers, see ya later’.” Smith, however, decided to not add more fuel to the matter and went back to the dressing room.

Brilliant bowling performance by Australia

Talking about the match, The Headingley in Leeds is the site of the third Test. The choice to bowl first by England’s captain Ben Stokes, who won the toss, paid off as the Australian hitters were out for just 263 runs. Mitchell Marsh, the Kangaroos’ star all-arounder, played for the team and hit an incredible century. He hit 17 fours and 4 sixes in his 118 runs off 118 balls.

James Anderson, Josh Tongue, and Ollie Pope were all replaced by Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, and Moeen Ali for the third Test. In the first inning, Wood showed his value by grabbing an incredible fifer. Because of the extra pace that Wood has, which also helps to get an extra bounce, Australian batters were unable to play against him.

Coming to bat, England also batted horribly as they were bundled out on just 237 runs, thanks to Stokes’ 80-run knock. Australian skipper Pat Cummins led from the front and picked up 6 wickets. Australia were on 116 runs after losing 4 wickets with a total of 142 runs lead at the end of Day 2.
