In the 26th match of the ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan is facing South Africa at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In a do-or-die game against the Proteas, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bat first. His decision didn’t go well with the team, as both Opeber Abdullah Shafique and Imam-Ul-Haq failed to put up a show with the bat.

Both were dismissed by pacer Marco Jansen, as Pakistan was struggling after losing two wickets for 38 runs in 6.3. However, after Imam’s departure, Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan joined Babar Azam in the middle and tried to rescue his team. On the very first delivery (6.4), Jansen dropped his tough catch on his own bowling and gave him a lifeline.

Meanwhile, things turned ugly in the same way when Jansen and Rizwan found themselves in a heated argument. Both were seen charging towards each other with some exchange of words. However, Babar Azam clammed down Rizwan, while Gerald Coetzee pulled Jansen away from the situation. But both didn’t calm down, as on the last ball of the seventh over, both exchanged a few words again.

Mohammad Rizwan’s aggressive innings come to an end

After receiving a lifeline on the very first delivery of the inning, Rizwan started playing with the field. With his aggressive batting approach, Rizwan and Babar added 48 runs off 62 balls for the third wicket. However, in the 16th over of the game, when the partnership was looking fluent, a short ball from Gerald Coetzee got the best out of Rizwan. He was caught behind by Quinton de Kock as Coetzee was pumped up with his wicket.

Rizwan, in his inning, scored 31 runs off 27 balls with the help of four fours and a six. It is worth noting that Pakistan has made two changes in the playing XI. They have replaced unwell Hasan Ali with Mohmmad Wasim Junior, while spinner Osama Mir has been replaced by experienced Mohammed Nawaj. On the other hand, South Africa made three changes as they left Kagiso Rabada, Reeza Hendricks, and Lizaad Williams and chose Temba Bavuma, Lungi Ngidi, and spinner Tabrez Shamsi.
