Talking about the match, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to field first and India’s journey began on a shaky note when their captain, Rohit, was dismissed on just the second ball of the game. Yet, the resilience of Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill helped lay the foundation for a substantial total.

Kohli and Gill displayed remarkable composure as their partnership of 189 runs for the second wicket was a testament to their prowess. Gill’s splendid innings saw him score 92 runs off 92 balls, featuring 11 fours and 2 sixes, while Kohli contributed 88 runs from 94 deliveries. Shreyas Iyer also shone, coming close to a century with 83 runs off 56 balls, including 3 fours and 6 sixes. The Indian batters consistently scored heavily, propelling their team beyond the 350-run mark.

As the chase began, India’s bowlers immediately asserted their dominance. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Pathum Nissanka LBW on the first delivery. Subsequently, Mohammed Siraj made a significant impact by claiming three top-order Sri Lankan wickets within his first seven deliveries. Mohammed Shami, India’s most successful bowler in the history of the ODI World Cup, marked his second five-wicket haul of the tournament in just three matches. Despite some resistance from Kasun Rajitha and Maheesh Theekshana, the game was well out of reach for Sri Lanka.
