Rassie Van der Dussen claimed a stunning catch to get rid of a dangerous batter like Mitchell Marsh in the semifinal 2 of the ODI World Cup 2023. Australia got off to a flier on a tricky wicket to bat on at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. David Warner and Travis Head scored 60 runs in the first 6 overs and gave a huge lead to the former world champions in the match.

Aiden Markram was brought into the attack by Temba Bavuma to break the partnership. The part-timer did not disappoint his captain, as he got the wicket of Warner with a peach of a delivery. Kagiso Rabada then operated from his end in the hope of some wickets. The pitch had some seam and extra bounce which kept the pace bowlers of South Africa in the game.

Rabada bowled a back-of-a-length delivery, outside off to Marsh, who was trying to hit some boundaries to get going. Marsh tried to loft it over the covers fielder. But there was no elevation on the shot, which meant that the ball went towards the catchable range of the fielder. Rassie Van Der Dussen, who was stationed in the covers region, attempted to catch the ball.

The match proceeds towards a potential thriller

As Van Der Dussen dived towards his right, he could catch the ball with perfection. It was a moment of brilliance from the fielder which led to the dismissal of Mitchell Marsh. The catch was stunning, to say the least. After having a bad game with the bat, Van Der Dussen found relief by claiming a brilliant catch inside the circle. Marsh was undone for a duck by the proteas.

The catch had a good impact on the match. From 74/1, Australia collapsed to 137/5. South Africa was right back in the game, as Australia still needed to chase down 75 runs with only 5 wickets in hand. The match has proceeded towards a potential thriller, as it could have any possible outcome. The South African spinners pulled the game back in their favour.
