In the ongoing 3rd ODI clash between Bangladesh and New Zealand in Dhaka on Tuesday, September 26, one incident stood out which left the cricket fans stunned. Mushfiqur Rahim, a key figure in the Bangladesh batting line-up, faced an unfortunate dismissal that left him in disbelief.

The incident occurred during New Zealand pacer and skipper Lockie Ferguson‘s spell, who delivered a short-of-a-length delivery on the off-stump in the 15th over of the first innings. Mushfiqur, a great wicketkeeper-batter known for his composure, attempted to defend the delivery but found himself caught in an unfortunate twist of fate. Fans on social media were also shocked to see the dismissal.

As he rose with the bounce, the ball took an unexpected trajectory off the face of his bat, deviating from its intended path. To the shock of everyone, it ultimately hit the stumps, leading to Mushfiqur’s dismissal. Rahim had been at the crease for 25 deliveries and contributed 18 runs to the team’s total before this bizarre turn of events. Mushfiqur tried to stop the ball with his legs but couldn’t do it.

Brilliant bowling performance by New Zealand

His departure cost Bangladesh a lot as they were bundled out for just 171 runs in the first innings. Najmul Hossain Shanto was the only batter who looked great in the middle as he scored 76 runs off 84 balls which included 10 fours. On the other hand, Adam Milne shone for the Kiwis by picking 4 wickets while conceding only 34 runs in the 6.3 overs he bowled. Apart from Trent Boult and Cole McConchie picked up 2 wickets each.

Coming back to Mushfiqur’s bizarre dismissal, cricket has a way of producing moments that defy logic, and Mushfiqur’s dismissal in this match was a testament to that. While the cricketing world marvelled at the sheer unpredictability of the game, it was a disappointing end for the talented batters who have the ability to turn the game single-handedly.
