Bangladesh and New Zealand clashed against each other in the 2nd match of the ongoing 3-match ODI series at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday, September 23. The Blackcaps displayed a magnificent bowling performance and secured a convincing 86-run victory.

However, there was a shocking and unusual error took place during New Zealand’s batting innings when an umpire lost the ball count in the 47th over of the innings due to which Mahedi Hasan, who was bowling the 47th over of the match, delivered 7 balls in an over. Sharfuddoula was standing as the umpire, who was criticised a lot on social media for his embarrassing brain fade moment.

This unusual occurrence left the fans stunned as the extra ball could have had a significant impact on the outcome, potentially altering the course of the match. However, that wasn’t the case in the match as the Kiwis were already dominating the Bangla Tigers in both batting and bowling department.

Excellent win by the boys: Lockie Ferguson

Cricket, often regarded as a game of fine margins, is known for its emphasis on precision and adherence to rules. Such umpiring blunders are rare but not unheard of, and they underscore the importance of vigilance in officiating the game.

Ultimately, despite the unexpected drama, New Zealand managed to secure a comfortable victory. They set a target of 255 runs for the Bangla Tigers with the help of a brilliant half-century knock by Tom Blundell. Surprisingly the target was enough for the New Zealand bowlers as they restricted Bangladesh to just 168 runs. Skipper Lockie Ferguson was delighted by the team’s performance and talked about the win in the post-match presentation.

“Excellent win by the boys. It all started with our batters, Henry and Blundell soaked up the pressure, Bangladesh started well with the ball but those two got us back into the game. The way Ish bowled today was exceptional, he’s our go-to guy and nice to see him yielding the results of his hard work. It was an all-round team performance.”
