When you have players like Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar, you let them be: Mohammad Azharuddin
Meanwhile, during an interview, Azhar spoke about his captaincy in his youth days. He started captaining the side in 1989, four years after his debut. The Hyderabad player replaced Kris Srikkanth. Meanwhile, talking about his captaincy, Azhar mentioned that his ability to manage the senior players was in question.
“When I assumed the role of captain, there were many senior players in the team, and people expressed their concerns about my youthfulness and ability to manage them. However, I approached it with a positive mindset,” Azhar shared with entrepreneurs and leaders in the audience.
“I viewed the presence of these seasoned players as a valuable asset. All those players, including the great Kapil Dev, had over a decade of playing experience, I saw this as a positive. I had their collective experience to draw from,” the former skipper added.
The president of Telangana Pradesh Congress further added that if a team has players sich as Dev and Sachin Tendulkar, you let them be.
“When you have players of the caliber of Sachin (Tendulkar) and Kapil (Dev), the most important thing was to leave them alone – they have immense talent. When they are on the field, they will manage, and you let them be.”
Notably, the 60-year-old has played with both Dev and Tendulkar during his career. The right-hander’s career ended due to match-fixing allegations in 2000 but was acquitted 11 years later.
