‘Doesn’t look like he will’ – Kapil Dev’s verdict on Hardik Pandya’s chances of comeback in India’s Test squad
India’s star allrounder Hardik Pandya isn’t having a great time leading the Indian squad in the T20I format as the Men in Blue recently lost a 5-match T20I series 3-2 against West Indies. His individual performance in the series was also not much impressive. However, he was brilliant while leading Gujarat Titans in the 15th and 16th editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Meanwhile, former legendary Indian captain Kapil Dev recently talked about Pandya and said that he saw his picture on a billboard in which the star allrounder was looking very fit. Kapil believes that Pandya should also play Test cricket as he has brilliant fitness.
“Doesn’t look like he will. I saw his photograph on the billboard today. I don’t know whether they did any touch-ups or not, but in that, he looked like having one of the finest bodies we have in the country. Yes, he should play more cricket because he has so much ability. If he is fit, he should play Test cricket also,” Kapil was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
It is not just fast-bowling all-rounders you require: Kapil Dev
Kapil also talked about former legendary England captain Nasser Husain’s comments on India’s lack of fast bowling allrounders. Kapil believes that India have produced many quality fast bowlers in recent years and having fast-bowling allrounders isn’t the solution to any problem. He said that a team need spin-bowling allrounders as well and the Indian team already have some decent spin-bowling allrounders.
“I don’t think it is right to compare players. Last 20-30 years, we have produced enough fast bowlers whom we can depend on. And that is more important. And it is not just fast-bowling all-rounders you require, you need spin-bowling allrounders as well. And you have some decent ones in the Indian team. Jadeja is fantastic, and Ashwin is doing a great job. So it isn’t that we don’t have any allrounders at all,” he said.
