Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan was having a good game with the bat against Nepal in the opening game of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. After his side won the toss and elected to bat first, they lost their openers, Fakhar Zaman and Imam ul Haq early. At 25/2, the likes of skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan put together 86 runs for the third wicket.

Things were going well for the team even though they were blowing hot and cold during the partnership. However, they tried to complete a risky single in the 24th over. In real-time, it looked like both batters had reached their ground. However, the replays showed that Rizwan, trying to escape from being hit by the ball, ended up not dragging his bat inside the crease before the ball hit the stumps.

This led to the Multan Sultans skipper losing his wicket in an innings that could have been a century for him.

Pakistan tears down debutant, Nepal

Talking about the game, the two-time champions were reduced to 124/4. At this stage, the likes of skipper Azam and Iftikhar Ahmad put together 214 runs. The latter scored his maiden ODI hundred in 68 balls. On the other hand, Azam scored 151 runs and accelerated after Ahmad started going well.

Not to forget, the Champions Trophy 2017 winner hit three consecutive sixes for the first time in his ODI career. Meanwhile, the duo’s efforts helped the team reach a daunting total of 342/6. It was always going to be about whether the Asia Cup debutants can put up a fight. Apart from Aarif Shiekh and Sompal Kami, no one in the Nepalese camp could bat for long. They were bowled out for 104, losing the game by 238 runs.
