‘Ise statpadding kehte hein, grinding nahin’ – Fans brutally troll Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan for their slow batting against Afghanistan
Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan put together 110 runs for the third wicket against Afghanistan. In the ongoing third ODI, the Green Brigade lost two wickets for 52 runs, losing both their openers, Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq. At this stage, the likes of Azam and Rizwam started playing slowly to build a partnership. At one stage, the 1992 World Cup winners were 103/2.
This has led to fans trolling the two batters even though they started picking the pace of scoring. Before getting out, Azam reached 60 off 86 balls striking at 69.75 compared to below 50 at one point. On the other hand, Rizwan is batting at 63 and striking at 81.81, improving his strike rate considerably. At the time of writing, Pakistan was 180/4, losing the wicket of Saud Shakeel (9) as he got run out.
The former World Champions in ODI and T20 World Cups are looking in a good position to get a decent total at this point.
Pakistan becomes number one ODI team for the second time under Babar Azam
Meanwhile, ahead of the ongoing game, Pakistan became the number one ODI team for the first time after April this year. During the scorching heat in the Indian subcontinent, Pakistan played hosts to New Zealand for a white-ball series.
In the T20I series, both teams ended up drawing the series 2-2 with one game washed out. Not to forget, the Blackcaps were a third-string side. In the three-match ODI series, the home side won the first two games, becoming the number-one ODI side for the first time. However, the glory stayed alive for only two days as they lost the last game of the series.
Five months later, in the ongoing series, Pakistan has won the first two games and would like to win the ongoing one too. After all, they would like to enter the Asia Cup 2023 as the top team. They are also the hosts of the tournament for four games.
This is how Twitter reacted
#BabarAzam and #Rijwan are playing as if it's a test match, but I doubt #Pakistan can defend less than 250.#AFGvsPAK pic.twitter.com/fL5ZdLvrV7

What's the class? Started playing test match in an ODI. Tough pitch? Give this pitch to English batters and see the results. This is the misbah mindset that I never liked and it's deep penetrated in Babar and Iftikhar both, that's why I don't agree with his approach as captain.
