Opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal made his international debut in the first Test against the West Indies this week. He included himself in the list of Indian and international players who scored a hundred on their Test debuts. In the game, Jaiswal smashed 171 runs in 387 balls and batted for nearly two days. He was adjudged the Player of the Match after the team won the game by an innings and 141 runs.

The next and last Test against the West Indies will start on July 20 in Trinidad and Tobago. Given the kind of experience the former India U19 player, Jaiswal has in four-day cricket (Nine Hundreds), he is expected to do well. Also, not to forget, the home team doesn’t have the best resources in the bowling line-up. Meanwhile, in this listicle, we will have a look at the records of Rohit Sharma that can be broken by Jaiswal.

  1. Most Hundreds by an Indian in World Test Championships

The India skipper has played both editions of the WTC. In the 2019-21 cycle, he started to open the batting for India in Tests against South Africa. The right-hander scored a double hundred and has seven hundreds, including the double ton.

The two-time World Cup has the highest number of Test tons by an Indian. However, after a year or so, he might retire from the game. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who just made his debut, might overtake the record. After all, an opening batter gets to play most.

2. Most hundreds in debut series

Rohit made his debut in what was the last-ever series of Sachin Tendulkar in 2013. In a two-match Test series, the former scored two-back-to-back series. Jaiswal also has the same opportunity. The next game start on July 20.

Notably, the overall record is held by former India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin. He scored three back-to-back hundreds in his debut Test series in 1985.
