WATCH: Rohit Sharma appears unimpressed with Ishan Kishan’s batting during Day 3 of first WI vs IND Test
On day three of the first West Indies-India Test match in Dominica, Ishan Kishan managed just one run off the 20 balls he faced in his debut Test knock before Rohit Sharma ended the innings. The Indian skipper seemed unimpressed with the debutant’s batting as he was seen making hand gestures to Kishan from the dressing room after he got off the mark in the game.
Not just Kishan took their time to score runs. In fact, nearly every Indian batsman had trouble increasing their scoring rates. No Indian batter who reached double digits had more than 50 strikes. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit, two centurions, achieved moderate strike rates of 44.18 and 46.60. It was primarily because of the pitch’s and the outfield’s slow pace.

Rohit Sharma and Co. won the game by an innings and 141 runs
It took Virat Kohli 81 balls to get his first boundary due to the difficulty of scoring, and he joyfully celebrated each four during his 76-run innings. So what did Kishan do wrong? Rohit Sharma’s response suggested that India was preparing a declaration after Kohli was dismissed for 76. And Kishan may have been charged with going out and obtaining rapid runs. Nevertheless, it took the left-handed player 20 balls to register his first runs in a Test match.
A furious Rohit Sharma immediately ordered him and Ravindra Jadeja (37*) back to the pavilion when he eventually scored the run. India had a 271-run advantage at that point and was at 421/5. In reply, West Indies could only manage to score 130 before being bundled out by Indian bowlers giving them a win by an innings and 141 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin returned with spectacular figures of 7/71 bringing his match tally to 12 wickets. Ravindra Jadeja supported him with figures of 2/38 as the West Indies batters found no response to the Indian spin onslaught. India have, therefore, achieved a winning start to their campaign in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.
