On February 11, in the 2nd T20I between Australia and the West Indies at the Adelaide Oval, Glenn Maxwell notched up his fifth century in the shortest format of the game. Hitting an explosive 120 off just 55 balls, Maxwell’s spectacular innings featured eight sixes and 12 boundaries. This remarkable performance propelled Australia to their highest T20I total against the West Indies, posting an imposing 241 for 4 in 20 overs.

With his parents present in the stands, Maxwell’s big-hitting exhibition left the West Indies bowling unit searching for answers as they struggled to contain the onslaught. This century he marked Maxwell’s second in T20Is in his last three matches, enabling him to catch up with Rohit Sharma at the top of the men’s T20I centurions list.

Watch Glenn Maxwell’s innings:

Maxwell had levelled Rohit’s tally in the past when he scored an unbeaten 104 against India in Guwahati. However, Rohit had edged ahead with another century against Afghanistan in January. Maxwell determined to reclaim the top spot, delivered a commanding performance in Adelaide, showcasing a repertoire of sweeps, reverse sweeps, and powerful hits to the mid-wicket boundaries.

“I have had a few cursed Adelaide trips,” says Glenn Maxwell

Expressing his joy after the match, Maxwell revealed the significance of the moment, stating, “It’s nice; I got my parents here as well. I have had a few cursed Adelaide trips with them coming over to watch me. I broke my leg the last time they tried to come over to Adelaide. So it’s nice to have made this a positive one.”

Earlier, Australia faced early setbacks as opener Josh Inglis fell early. Captain Mitchell Marsh provided momentum in the powerplay, contributing 29 off 12 balls. Despite the dismissals of Marsh and David Warner, Maxwell, along with Marcus Stoinis and Tim David, propelled Australia to their fourth-highest T20I total, sealing a dominant performance against the West Indies in the must-win contest.
