Babar Azam vs Prabath Jayasuriya

On 26 July 2023, all eyes were on Babar Azam when he came out to bat on day three of the ongoing second Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Colombo. After day one, he was not out on eight overs. Then, on day two, only 10 overs of the game happened and the Pakistan skipper added 20 runs.

But, he managed to add only 11 runs more as Babar got out on 39 runs during the morning session of day three. Interestingly, it was Prabath Jayasuriya who took his wicket and now, in seven innings, he has taken the wickets of the Pakistan skipper six times. As per stats, the star Pakistan batter has struggled to face this Lankan spinner.

Babar Azam was trapped LBW by Prabath Jayasuriya

In seven innings, he has scored only 172 runs off 324 balls, including 19 fours and four sixes, at an average of 28.7. In this innings, fans were eagerly waiting for the battle between these players. However, Babar managed a good start as he hit two fours along with a six coming down the track. On the fourth delivery of the 40th over, Jayasuriya produced an edge but the ball fell short of the slips. But, in the end, Jayasuriya had the last laugh when he trapped Babar LBW on the fifth delivery of the 48th over.

Babar Azam went for a straightforward defence but the ball did not turn as it went with the arm. It hit the pads and the umpire did not hesitate at all to raise his finger. Meanwhile, the Pakistan skipper went for a review but it turned out to be a plumb LBW decision as it was three reds and Babar went for 39 runs off 75 balls, including four fours and one six. Speaking of the match, Pakistan reached 511 runs for five wickets in 122 overs as Agha Salman was on the crease after notching up a century along with Mohammad Rizwan.

Gautam Gambhir Criticized for Treatment of Ravindra Jadeja Despite Stellar All-Rounder Stats

Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian cricketer and current commentator, is under fire for his comments regarding Ravindra Jadeja’s one of India’s premier all-rounders. Fans and analysts have taken issue with Gambhir’s critique, especially in light of Ravindra Jadeja’s remarkable achievements that position him among the game’s elite players.

Ravindra Jadeja, the ICC’s No. 1-ranked all-rounder, boasts impressive statistics that surpass even some of cricket’s legends, including Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, in certain contexts. His contributions with both bat and ball have been crucial for India in all formats of the game, yet Gambhir’s recent remarks seem to downplay these feats.

Statistically, Jadeja’s consistency is unparalleled. He has maintained high averages and strike rates while excelling in bowling under pressure. Fans argue that comparing his numbers to cricket greats reveals his immense value to Indian cricket. His performances in Test matches, particularly in challenging overseas conditions, have been instrumental in India’s success.

Critics of Gambhir’s stance assert that his remarks undermine Jadeja’s legacy as an all-rounder. Social media platforms were flooded with support for Jadeja, highlighting his match-winning contributions and unmatched versatility. Fans have called for greater recognition of the all-rounder’s achievements, urging commentators like Gambhir to acknowledge his importance.

With the ICC World Test Championship qualification at stake, this match plays a pivotal role in deciding India’s pathway to the final. Rain interruptions have hindered Australia’s push to enforce the follow-on, giving India a potential lifeline.

Australia took an early lead in the match, showcasing dominant performances with both bat and ball. However, persistent rainfall has disrupted their plans to finish the game strongly. For India, the inclement weather has provided a much-needed opportunity to recover and aim for a draw, which is crucial for keeping their WTC hopes alive.
