Team-wise highest run scorer in IPL history
The Indian Premier League(IPL) 2024 is just a month away from starting and the hype is on for the crowd once again. This is the number one T20 franchise league that started back in 2008 and now has become one of the biggest tournaments in the world that features young talents and legends together. The squads are already finalised and we are sure to get another great tournament with some great talent in the T20 format. This is the tournament which challenges every young cricketer as they will go head-to-head against these legendary players and look to perform on the big stage. We are once again up for some thrilling matches in this tournament once again.
We all know that this tournament is filled with some exciting matches, but it is important to recognize who are the players who give us these great matches. There have been a lot of top performers in this tournament who have given some match-winning performances. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah being the pioneers for the Mumbai Indians and MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo taking the Chennai Super Kings to glory are examples of some of the best players in the league. These are the men who have made this tournament a global event and have given us some memorable moments.
While talking about these performers, let us talk about the best batters in IPL history who have dominated any bowling attack they have faced. The T20 is a format which is said to be ruled by the batters, who have entertained us with some great T20 innings. These players have made run-making in the T20s look easy and have made even the best bowlers suffer their wrath of six-hitting and run-scoring. There have been a lot of batters who have given us great performances so it will be interesting to see who are the leading run scorers from every IPL team through the 16 editions.
Here are the leading run scorers from all the teams in the last 16 editions
10. Delhi Capitals- Rishabh Pant
The Delhi Capitals are one of the underachieving teams in the IPL and are yet to taste glory in the tournament. That does not mean that they have never had their share of great players in the squad as well. Rishabh Pant is one of those iconic performers for this side with his flamboyant style of cricket. Pant has scored over 2500 runs in his 98 IPL matches and has been loyal to the capitals in his career so far. The fans will be hoping that he come back and takes the Delhi side to the playoffs just like he did in his first stint as the skipper in the tournament.
9. Punjab Kings- KL Rahul
KL Rahul might not be part of the Punjab Kings setup anymore, but he was one of their top performers whenever he played for them. Rahul has been scoring runs consistently in the league and has over 4000 runs in 118 games. The Punjab Kings have not been the most successful side in the tournament, but they were still blessed with the class of KL Rahul, who even in their worst seasons was scoring runs for fun. With Rahul now representing the Lucknow franchise their team does not have that impact player anymore. This has turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes made by the Punjab franchise to let their beloved superstar go after the 2021 season.
8. Lucknow SuperGiants- KL Rahul
The fact that KL Rahul’s name has come up for the 2nd time in this list is something to admire about the star batter. Rahul has continued his great form in the new franchise as well, where once again he has been among the runs. The Lucknow franchise has already had a decent start in their first two seasons, where they have already made it to the playoffs twice in a row. Rahul is still at the helm of affairs and is once again in the form of his life, which is a great sign for the franchise and he will be hoping that he finally wins the title that has been eluding him for years.
7. Royal Challengers Bangalore- Virat Kohli
The Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB) are yet to find glory in these last 16 editions, where they have even been part of 3 finals as well. The RCB has been known as one of the popular underachievers of the tournament. The man who has carried the team even during their tough times is none other than Virat Kohli. Virat is also the highest run-scorer in the tournament with over 7000 runs to his name along with 7 centuries as well. Even though he has yet to win an IPL title, he has still given enough performances to establish himself as one of the greatest players in the league to ever step onto the field.
6. Rajasthan Royals- Sanju Samson
The Rajasthan Royals were set to be one of the top sides in the league known for spending their money on young talent. This was enough to make them the inaugural champions of the IPL as well and he is still one of the key players for the Royals. Samson started playing for the Royals when he was a teenager and has continued to give great performances for this side. He also led the team to their second IPL final as well. With over 150 games and 3888 runs, he is one of the best batters for the franchise and will want to give another promising performance in this upcoming season as well.
5. Sunrisers Hyderabad- David Warner
It was six years ago when the Sunrisers Hyderabad were one of the most popular sides and were making it a habit of finishing in the playoffs every time they played. In those days David Warner was their leader and one of the best batters they ever had. Warner was one of the marquee players for the Sunrisers at the top and turned the Hyderabad franchise into one of the most feared sides in the tournament. Being one of the top run scorers in the IPL with over 6000 runs everyone was surprised to see the franchise release him. He was also at the helm of affairs in the 2016 season where the franchise won its first IPL title.
4. Gujarat Titans- Shubman Gill
The year was 2022 when we saw the birth of a new IPL team that would go on to take the competition by storm. The Hardik Pandya-led side was the first new and upcoming franchise to win the trophy in their debut season. One of the other stars of this team is India’s upcoming superstar Shubman Gill. The batter had already made a mark as a prodigy when he played for the Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR), but last year was one of his breakthrough seasons for the Titans where he won the orange cap with 859 runs to his name. Gill is already the best batter in the Gujarat side and will also be leading them in the upcoming season and continue his great performance.
3. Kolkata Knight Riders- Gautam Gambhir
Even though we have seen some exciting players playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders, there was only one player who the franchise has enjoyed their successful years with. Gautam Gambhir was not only a great leader who had been part of two of the most successful years for the franchise but was also their top run scorer. The era of Gambhir with KKR was one of the best KKR has ever had and recently have failed to live up to those glory days. Gambhir has scored over 4000 runs in his IPL career and the majority of those runs have come while playing for the Knight Riders for whom he will always be one of the top players to ever play for the franchise.
2. Chennai Super Kings- Suresh Raina
If there was one player who stood with the likes of MS Dhoni during the successful years for the Chennai Super Kings, it was the left-handed superstar, Suresh Raina. Raina has given some of his best performances for the Chennai Super Kings and is still the leading run scorer for the team. With scoring over 5000 IPL runs and being a part of 4 title-winning seasons for the Super Kings, Raina had done it all. He was one of the best batters to play for the Super Kings and has given some match-defining innings with the team. He might not be playing the IPL any more, but he will always be remembered as the Super Kings legend.
1. Mumbai Indians- Rohit Sharma
There is only one man who has been behind all the successful years Mumbai Indians have ever had and it is Rohit Sharma. He is not only the best captain ever to lead the side with 5 titles to his name, but he is also comfortably the best batter in the Mumbai franchise. He has scored over 6000 runs in the tournament and is one of the top run scorers in the entire league. It is safe to say that Rohit has been there for the Mumbai Indians through thick and thin, whether it is scoring big runs or winning the trophies. Rohit will always be the legend of the Mumbai franchise. He might not be leading the side in the upcoming season, but we hope he continues to give the great performances he has given the franchise in the past.

South Africa Secures WTC Final Spot, Pressure Builds on India and Australia
Temba Bavuma-led South Africa secured their spot in the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s by defeating Pakistan in the first Test of their two-match series. Despite a dramatic collapse to 99/8 while chasing 148, Kagiso Rabada (31*) and Marco Jansen (16*) steered South Africa to a two-wicket victory, ensuring they topped the WTC standings. This victory means that the second Test between South Africa and Pakistan no longer affects their qualification for the WTC final, and the pressure is now squarely on India and Australia to secure their spots.
South Africa’s WTC Final Qualification
By winning the first Test, South Africa guaranteed a place in the June 2025 WTC final, leaving India and Australia fighting for the remaining spots. The Proteas’ victory has shifted the focus onto the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, as both India and Australia cannot afford any more slip-ups. South Africa’s dominance in the WTC standings has added intensity to the remaining fixtures, with both teams now facing a do-or-die scenario.
What Must India and Australia Do to Qualify for the WTC Final?
India’s points percentage dropped from 57.29 to 55.88 after the drawn Test in Brisbane. Currently, they sit third in the WTC standings, behind South Africa and Australia. With only one match left after the Melbourne Test, India faces a challenging path to the final. Australia, with three matches remaining (one against India and two against Sri Lanka), has more opportunities to improve its standing.
India and Australia are contesting for a total of 228 points, making their head-to-head matches in Melbourne and Sydney vital. Here’s a breakdown of their qualification scenarios:
India and Australia’s WTC Scenarios:
- If India wins at the MCG but draws the series 2-2 (Australia wins in Sydney):
- India: 126 points (55.26 PCT)
- Australia: Can qualify with two draws or one win in Sri Lanka.
- If India draws at the MCG and wins in Sydney:
- India: 130 points (57.01 PCT)
- Australia: Must beat Sri Lanka 2-0 to qualify.
- If India loses at the MCG but draws in Sydney:
- India: 118 points
- Australia: Can overtake India if they win in Sri Lanka.
- If India draws both the MCG and Sydney Tests:
- India: 122 points (53.50 PCT)
- Australia: Needs to win at least one match against Sri Lanka to qualify.
Updated WTC Standings:
- South Africa (Q) – PCT 66.67
- Australia – PCT 58.89
- India – PCT 55.88
- New Zealand – PCT 48.21
- Sri Lanka – PCT 45.45
- England – PCT 43.18
- Pakistan – PCT 30.30
