SRH have a tricky decision to make ahead of IPL 2024. They have to choose one among Pat Cummins and Aiden Markram as their captain for the 17th edition of the league. While the South African has been their captain since the last season, Cummins has reached a different level in cricket with his success for Australia as a leader.

In 2023, Cummins won the WTC final, ODI World Cup 2023, and retained Ashes 2023 away from home as a captain. One would not see a better success in the same year from a captain. it has been probably the greatest year for a captain in the history of the sport as far as success is concerned. Cummins could not have asked for a better record as a captain.

In the IPL auction 2023, Cummins bagged a huge sum of INR 20.50 crores. SRH got the Australian captain to represent them in the season. The question arises now regarding their captaincy in the season. Aiden has been a good captain in the last few months. At the same time, Cummins has been successful. It would take some time for SRH to announce their captain for IPL 2024.

‘Maybe they are looking for a captain’ – Simon Doull

Speaking about the same, Simon Doull gave his opinion. The former NZ player felt that SRH might be looking for a captain. “Maybe they are looking for a captain. We have joked a little bit about it. Does (Aiden) Markram play every game now? They haven’t announced their skipper. Does Pat Cummins take over that franchise? Does he come in and play a lot more instead of a Marco Jansen next year for them?” said Doull.

Doull addressed the confusion of SRH after having picked Cummins. they have to pick a captain and look after the choice of playing Cummins over Marco Jansen. “That’s going to be the question mark. Now that you have paid all this money, you have got to get him into that team. Where does he start and whose place does he take? They have got a lot of high-quality overseas talent,” added Doull.
