In what seems to be a bit shocking piece of news after the three resignations in the coaching staff, Zaka Ashraf also stepped down from his role as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. The news broke out just after the conclusion of the fourth meeting of the managing committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board, which was also chaired by former Chief Zaka Ashraf.

“Zaka Ashraf announced that he has decided to tender his resignation as chairman and member of the MC to the caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar,” PCB said in a statement through a media release.

“He thanked members of the MC, the PCB management, and staff for their support during this tenure. Members of the MC and the PCB management expressed their gratitude to the Chairman MC for his leadership,” the statement added further.

Zaka Ashraf as PCB chief: A tenure full of conundrums and controversies

Zaka Ashraf was on the receiving end of brutal criticism from cricket fans, cricket experts and former cricketers as well for the last couple of months. It all started during the ODI World Cup 2023 when the Pakistan Cricket Team was having a very miserable run in the tournament under the captaincy of the former skipper Babar Azam.

The controversy ignited a bit more when Zaka Ashraf, in a TV interview, leaked the personal WhatsApp chat of the former skipper Babar Azam with Board COO Salman Naseer. It also went on to put him under fire, alongside the sports journalist who interviewed him on Pakistan’s renowned National TV channel.

Speaking of the current situation for Pakistan, they are having a very bad phase in international cricket, after continuously losing the four T20Is of the ongoing five-match T20I series against New Zealand in New Zealand. The team is taking on the Blackcaps in the T20I Series under the captaincy of the newly-appointed T20I skipper and star pace spearhead, Shaheen Afridi.
