Rohit Sharma achieves new milestone, surpasses former Indian captain MS Dhoni
Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma is performing exceptionally well in the ongoing 2-match Test series between India and West Indies. The right-handed batter smashed his 10 Test century in the 1st match and continued to bat well in the second Test as well with a knock of 80 runs.
Meanwhile, Rohit’s brilliant batting performance in the series has helped him become the 5th highest run-scorer in the international for India. Rohit has surpassed the former legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni with a total of 17,298 runs at an average of 42.92 in just 443 matches which includes 92 half-centuries and 44 centuries.
Dhoni appeared in 523 international matches and scored 17,092 runs, however, Dhoni used to bat down the order and these figures show how great a finisher he was. On the other hand, Rohit is still behind Sourav Ganguly (18,433 runs in 421 matches), Rahul Dravid (24,064 runs in 504 matches), Virat Kohli (25,484 runs in 500 matches) and Sachin Tendulkar (34,357 runs in 664 matches). Kohli and Rohit are the only active players on the list currently.

Rohit has made 52 appearances in the Test format and has scored 3620 runs so far at an average of 46.41 with 15 half-centuries and 10 centuries. He has played 243 ODI games so far and scored 9825 runs at an impressive average of 48.63 which included 48 fifties and 30 hundreds. The right-hander has also played 148 T20I matches and scored 3853 at an average of 31.32 with 29 fifties and 4 centuries.
Coming back to the ongoing series, India won the first Test by an innings and 141 runs. The Indian team entered Queen’s Park Oval with a 1-0 lead over the Caribbeans. India were asked to bat first and openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit once again delivered a great partnership with both scoring half-centuries. Rohit scored 80 runs before getting bowled. Kohli (87*) and Ravindra Jadeja (36*) are currently on the crease with India on 288/4.
