‘Badhiya PR Network bana rahe ho’ – Fans react as Sourav Ganguly says he’d like to see Yashasvi Jaiswal in ODI World Cup
Yashasvi Jaiswal dazzled on his Test debut for India, scoring 171 off 387 balls against the West Indies in the first Test in Dominica. After such a marquee debut, it is natural that Jaiswal is attracting the interest of many cricket experts. One of them is India’s great Sourav Ganguly. The former left-handed batter was in absolute awe of the youngster and said that he would like to see Jaiswal in the ODI World Cup scheduled to be played in India between October 5 and November 19, 2023.
“I would like to see Jaiswal play in the upcoming ODI World Cup. I have watched him from close quarters during the IPL. But red-ball cricket is different and he showed that he has it in him to succeed there too. I feel he has the quality to serve Indian cricket for long,” Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying by the Time of India.
‘Scoring a hundred on debut is always massive’ – Sourav Ganguly
The former India skipper also pointed out a tactical advantage India might get with Jaiswal’s celebration. “I am always in favor of left-hand-right-hand combination in the top order. That puts the rival attack under some trouble as the bowlers have to continuously vary their line and length accordingly”, Ganguly pointed out.
“Scoring a hundred on debut is always massive. I too have done it, so I know how special it is. Even technique-wise, he seems really good. A left-handed batsman’s presence in the team always helps. So, having him in the World Cup squad is a must,” he further added.
Notably, Jaiswal has been named in the Asian Games squad. And, it basically includes players that are not in contention of being named in the World Cup squad. The Asian Games will start in late September and run until 8 October. “They should preferably pull Jaiswal out of the Asian Games side and consider him for the World Cup,” Ganguly said in a message to the Indian selectors.
Here’s how fans reacted to Sourav Ganguly’s statements:

Rehne do Dada. Aapke under sudden changes ka nateeja dekh liye tha WT20 2021 mein. Better we go with a Time-tested formula.
Even though I support the logic behind having Left-Right combo at top but I would rather see Shikhar with Rohit instead of Jaiswal till the ODI WC atleast.
