The Indian cricket team have started their World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle with a massive win against West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in the first match of the 2-match Test series in Windsor Park, Dominica on July 15. However, the win has also helped some Indian players to make a jump on the Test rankings list.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma smashed his 10th Test century which helped to make a comeback in the top 10 Test batters world rankings. However, there is no other Indian batter in the top 10 list as Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli are ranked 11th and 14th in the list, respectively. It was also Rohit’s 7th century in the World Test Championship.

Apart from Rohit, the 21-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made his Test debut against West Indies, smashed his first-ever Test century and that too in a debut match. With this magnificent performance, Jaiswal made his maiden appearance in the Men’s Test batting rankings of the world by acquiring the 73rd spot.

Brilliant performance by R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja

Apart from the batters, Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja displayed a tremendous bowling performance, especially, Ashwin who picked up 12 wickets in the match and continued to stay at the top in bowling rankings. His partner, Jadeja also made a significant improvement in the rankings as he climbed three spots to move to the 7th spot in the rankings.

Jadeja also performed decently with the bat as he played an unbeaten 37-run knock in the 2nd innings and made his spot at the top of the Men’s Test allrounder rankings. The 2nd place is acquired by Ashwin which clearly shows how important this all-rounder duo is for the Indian cricket team, especially in the longest format.

India will be back in action for the 2nd Test against West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain with a lead of 1-0. The Caribbean side will look to make a comeback while the Indian team will aim for a clean sweep.
