Shoaib Malik’s current life on and off the field is not been in control as his Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) contract was terminated. Earlier Malik was accused of underperforming in a BPL 2024 match for Fortune Barishal. He bowled three no-balls in his sole over against the Khulna Tigers, conceding 18 runs. With the bat, the 41-year-old scored 5 runs off 6 balls in the death overs.

Malik‘s performance made questions about the cricketer’s intentions. The Pakistan cricketer raised eyebrows after bowling three no-balls in a single over. Many people believed that the no-balls were bowled on purpose, as a subtle hint of fixing. A Bangladesh-based journalist tweeted that Fortune Barishal terminated the contract on the suspicion of “fixing” days after the event. Before that, the all-rounder was in the headlines after his marriage to actress Sana Javed amid rumours of separation from Indian tennis star Sania Mirza.

According to rumours in Bangladeshi and Pakistani media, Malik left for Dubai for personal reasons following the Dhaka phase and would not return. Ahmed Shehzad, Malik’s compatriot, will take over at Fortune Barishal.

Fortune Barishal scored 187-4 from their 20 overs off the back of a brilliant unbeaten 68 runs from Mushfiqur Rahim. Captain Tamim Iqbal also scored 40 at the top before Mahmudullah added crucial runs in the death.

We always hope to lift the title: Mizanur Rahman

Mizanur said, “We always hope to lift the title. This year we want to make the final and then win it. That’s our only goal. We worked for almost six months to build the team. But none of this was useful at the end of the day,” he said. “There’s a player crisis since other leagues are also taking place. For this, players we signed before breached contracts. So we were back to square one. Only the last-minute works have come handy.”

“We didn’t do well in the World Cup. But failures can happen. But I think the biggest reason is the [National] Elections. We were very busy with the Elections and the BPL started right after that. That’s the main reason why we are not getting [enough] sponsors.”
