WATCH: Shakib Al Hasan assaults fan during election rally in Bangladesh

Bangladeshi Cricket Legend Shakib Al Hasan has forayed into politics as his playing career is nearing its end. The 36-year-old had won his maiden election campaign by beating his opponent by a huge margin.

Just before the results came out Shakib could be seen thronged by a huge crowd. One fan was seen getting closer to the Bangladeshi cricket idol. It was at that moment that Shakib was slapping the young fan which seemed to stun the latter.

Considering that one of the greatest all-rounders of this era, Shakib has won a lot of laurels for his country. The veteran decided to slowly phase himself out of cricket after the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign.

Shakib AL Hasan wins on his political debut –

It was a great day for Bangladesh Cricket Legend Shakib AL Hasan. The 36-year-old won his maiden election with the Awami League. Kazi Reazul Hossain was the competitor who was fighting for the Magura-1 constituency.

Shakib AL Hasan got many people voting for him due to his fame. The margin of win was by over 1.5 Lakh votes over Kazi Hossain. There were widespread celebrations after the veteran won the election as fans burst crackers. A few fans were also seen garlanding the Bangladeshi player.

Shaikh Hasina, the Bangladeshi Prime Minister came out victorious yet again. “We can call Awami League winner with the results that were available but the final announcement will be made after the end of the counting of votes in the rest of the constituencies”

Bangladesh Cricket meanwhile are on the path of finding new talents after their disastrous World Cup tournament. The Tigers haven’t qualified for the Champions Trophy which is set to take place in Pakistan in 2025. But first comes the T20 World Cup, which is to be played in June this year.

Placed in Group D, Bangladesh will face tough competition this year. The other teams in the group are Sri Lanka, South Africa, Nepal, and The Netherlands. It will be interesting to see if Shakib AL Hasan takes part in the event. As of now, the 36-year-old hasn’t played since the ODI World Cup campaign ended in India.

In 117 T20I games, Shakib has scored 2382 runs with 12 half-centuries and picked 140 wickets. The veteran left-arm spinner has also picked two fifers with a best of 5/20 during his long career.
