Shakib Al Hasan opens up about his difficulty while batting in ODI World Cup 2023
Shakib Al Hasan opens up about the discomfort he faced while batting in the ODI World Cup 2023. The star cricketer suffered from blurred vision in the middle of the tournament. As a result, his batting numbers went downhill, compared to his performance in the previous edition of the tournament in 2019, where he was one of the best batters. Shakib was incredible in the ODI WC 2019.
But in the ODI World Cup 2023, Shakib could not perform as well. With the bat, the star cricketer scored 186 runs in 7 innings at an average of just 26.57. While speaking about his discomfort in the tournament in a recent interview, the star batter revealed that he was suffering from blurred vision due to stress issues. Following the team’s exit from the tournament, Shakib revealed the fact.
Shakib revealed that he was suffering from an eye problem not just for some games but throughout the tournament. “It is not in one or two games in the World Cup, rather I was having it (the eye problem) throughout the World Cup,” said Shakib in the interview. In the middle of the tournament, Shakib opted to have a practice session with his childhood mentor.
The team was not ready the way I was thinking – Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib also opened up about the team’s performance in the tournament. Shakib felt that he would have liked some time to prepare as a captain before the ODI WC 2023. “If I had got that (captaincy) earlier it would have been easy because if I had time, I could make everything ready and go there (for the World Cup),” added Shakib. He felt that the team was not as ready as he thought to be.
Shakib accepted the fact that Bangladesh did not play well in ODIs during the ODI WC or in the matches leading up to it. The problem I faced (as a captain) was that the team was not ready for the way I was thinking or the philosophy through which I wanted to play. If you see not only during the World Cup but through 2023 our ODI performances were not good,” Shakib added.
