Rashid Latif

Rashid Latif has given his opinion on the leadership of the Pakistan Cricket Board from the 1980s. As Zaka Ashraf recently announced his resignation as the President of PCB, Latif has taken to X and mentioned the leadership of the board and the change in captains of the national team. Latif felt that both go hand in hand in Pakistan and gave a series of examples for the same.

Latif claimed that the rebellions on the board resulted in the resignation of Zaka Ashraf. He added that in Pakistan cricket it is pretty common to see issues that lead to the resignation of captains and the head of the board. Latif wrote that rebellions, fixing, division, revolts, and surrogates are not uncommon for Pakistan cricket. He then questioned the reason behind Babar Azam not leading Pakistan in Tests.

Latif then added a series of events from 1981 to 2024 that have led to the sacking of captains and the head of the board. “2024 Zaka Ashraf Resigned Rebellions, Division, Fixing, Surrogate and revolts not uncommon to Pakistan Cricket. Why did Babar Azam refuse to Lead the Test Format? Time to Time Historical Facts of Division | Revolts | Rebellions | Sacking & resignations,” wrote Latif on X.

List of unpleasant changes in leadership in Pakistan cricket

Latif started with the 1981 revolt against Javed Miandad. He added how Imran Khan was sacked following the revolt against the former Pakistan PM after winning the 1992 ODI World Cup. He also mentioned how Wasim Akram was sacked from captaincy twice in 1994 and 1999. Latif also mentioned how the likes of Saleem Malik and Waqar Younis were sacked from captaincy.

Latif mentioned the fixing scandals of Pakistan in 2010 and added how Younis Khan resigned soon after winning the T20 WC 2009. Rashid pointed out the resignation of some of the captains like Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammad Hafeez, and Sarfaraz Khan. Since 2022, a lot of popular former cricketers like Ramiz Raja, Wasim Khan, Mohammad Wasim, Saqlain Mushtaq, Inzamam-ul-Haq, and Najam Sethi were the people in power in PCB had to resign or be sacked. Latif mentioned them all in his post on X.
