New Zealand’s young sensation Rachin Ravindra displayed a magnificent batting performance in the first match of the ODI World Cup 2023. The 23-year-old smashed his maiden ODI century against Australia on October 5 in Ahmedabad and secured a convincing win for the Blackcaps by 9 wickets.

Meanwhile, the young left-hander recently revealed the inspiration behind his interesting name. his name actually comes from two Indian cricket team batting legends, Rahul Dravid (Ra) and Sachin Tendulkar (chin). India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid humorously reacted to this while praising Ravindra for his brilliant knock against Australia.

“Watching him bat yesterday, he hit five sixes… Maybe it was more ‘chin’ that was there. Not sure, I hit the ball off the square at all. I couldn’t hit the ball off the square at all. Maybe the Sachin in it helped him certainly,” Rahul was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.

I do remember him: Rahul Dravid on Rachin Ravindra

Dravid said that he watched Ravindra’s batting and was pretty impressed with both Ravindra and Devon Conway, who also smashed a century. Both stitched an unbeaten 200+ runs partnership. Dravid also said that he remembers a Test match where Ravindra came to bat and saved the Kiwis from the loss.

“Yeah, bits and pieces of it. I thought both of them played really well. Obviously got New Zealand off to a really flying start in the tournament and looked like the wicket really became a good one as the game went on. And yeah, both of them batted really well.

“Yeah, I think he played a Test match against us in Kanpur and I do remember him because he saved the Test match,” he said.

Hearing Dravid’s comments about Ravindra, it’d be interesting to see how well the former legendary Indian batter prepares his bowlers to bowl against the left-hander when the Blackcaps will face the Men in Blue on October 22 in Dharamsala.
