Mohammed Shami slams Hasan Raza over his bizarre claims during ODI World Cup 2023
During the ODI World Cup 2023, Indian pacers showcased remarkable performance, prompting former cricketer Hasan Raza to raise doubts about the umpires and players’ integrity. The 41-year-old alleged that umpires favored Indian bowlers with a different ball and accused the hosts of manipulating the DRS system. Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram criticized Raza’s unfounded remarks, while star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami denounced his actions. Moreover, Shami emerged as the top wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023.
The star India pacer also went onto criticized Raza and said that he consistently fails to appreciate India’s achievements and always seeks to criticize. Shami further remarked that Raza’s comments stem from jealousy, as he believes Pakistan is unfairly treated in global tournaments. Former cricketer Aakash Chopra also derided Raza’s assertions, dubbing them as ‘comedy’. Meanwhile, Akram expressed his disapproval, stating that Raza’s remarks were bringing disgrace to the nation and urged him to desist from making such statements.
“Actually they have made cricket a joke because we don’t enjoy each other’s success. You become too happy when you are being praised, but when you lose, you feel that you have been cheated. You look at the records of the time we have been part of the team, you won’t even find them close. Jalan toh puri dikhti hai wo. Itna jalane se kon se results mil jaane hain (jealousy is evident. You can never get good results with this amount of jealousy),” Shami told News18.

Despite sustaining an ankle injury during the ODI World Cup, Shami persisted in playing through the pain. Following the tournament’s conclusion, he opted for a hiatus and has not yet rejoined the squad. Reports suggest that the Indian Cricket Board is addressing his injury, with speculation rife that he may seek additional treatment in Europe.
Indian Cricket Board officials have been tight-lipped about Shami’s situation, providing scant details. Presently in India, he is expected to sit out the entire Test series against England. While there’s a possibility of his comeback during the IPL, nothing definitive has been confirmed yet.
