‘Missed century by 100 runs’ – Fans react as Virat Kohli gets out for 9-ball duck in ODI World Cup clash against England

India and England are facing off in the 29th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Vihari Bajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29. England’s captain, Jos Buttler, won the toss and elected to field, making it the first time that the Indian team is setting a target.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, India’s leading run-scorer in the tournament, failed to maintain his impressive form against England, getting dismissed for a duck. Kohli, eager to open his account after facing several dot balls, fell victim to a clever delivery from David Willey. The English bowler adjusted his length, and Kohli attempted a downtown shot, but he couldn’t connect well. The ball hit the top part of his bat and landed in the hands of short mid-off, where Ben Stokes made the catch with delight.

Poor run for the England team in the tournament so far

Both teams have maintained an unchanged lineup. However, during the toss, India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, expressed his willingness to bat first as well. Rohit and his team aim to continue their dominant run in this mega-world event as they face a struggling England side.

The defending champions have been a major disappointment in the tournament, currently languishing at the bottom of the points table with just one win in five matches. Their chances of reaching the semifinals appear bleak, but they are determined to bounce back and make a statement.

For India, a victory would mean reclaiming the top spot and securing a spot in the semifinals. With star players like Kohli, Rohit, and Jasprit Bumrah in top form, the team is in a strong position. All eyes are also on Suryakumar Yadav, expected to bat in the middle order in the absence of Hardik Pandya as the Indian team have already lost their 3 batters in the match at the time of writing.
